The Renaissance Poetics Seminar / Seminario de Poética del Renacimiento, was set up as a Research Group in 2000 at the Department of Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature, UAB, under the direction of Prof. María José Vega. In the field of Spanish Renaissance its critical practice has become a reference point for scholars, based on more than 25 funded research projects which have strongly involved a large number of prestigious academics.
Our research covers European Poetics and Politics in Early Modernity, its backbone being Censorship and Reading, the most distinctive feature of our late research culture. Our expertise and contribution to the theoretical debate has been acknowledged by the National Plan for Research and the Generalitat.
The group comprises fifteen researchers from nine Universities in six different countries, currently providing other scholars with new editions of highly significant texts, primarily understood as agents of ideology, propaganda, contestation and dissent in Early Modern Europe.
Dissemination of our research includes a wide range of forms of critical practice. Thus, the Seminar sponsors the Bibliotheca Spherica, a digitised series of fundamental texts, an international scientific journal, Studia Aurea, as well as a great number of international meetings and workshops.
